The Cash for Clunkers program is severely flawed. Let's look at a 2000 Honda Odyssey. The government gives this vehicle a combined mpg rating of 19 mpg. Who in the whole US of A is getting 19 mpg on a 2000 Odyssey. Most of the EPA's mileage ratings are off but this is ridiculous. 19 mpg on a 2000 Odyssey is about as bad as the overstatement of hybrid mpg. Of course this makes very few Hondas, Toyotas or Volkswagens eligible for the Cash for Clunkers program.
According to the CARS.gov site, these are the number one most sought after vehicles to be purchased. My biggest rant is, what about the little guy paying taxes to fund this so the rich guy can get $4500 out of his truck he kept around to bring garbage to the dump? Just another way the rich are sticking it to us again.
Look where this is going America. If you have bad credit, get ready for a long hard ride to the Beaverton poor house. A lot of Beaverton dealers will be useing the Cash for Clunkers program to help their sales. Great the dealers need a little help so everyone will have a place to service their cars. But Obama forgot about the little guy. We're paying the bill and the Rich in Beaverton will be the one's profiting from it.

How do I find out the combined city/highway fuel economy rating of my trade-in vehicle?
Go to http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/sbs.htm and click on the model year of your vehicle, the make, and then the model. Under the words "ESTIMATED NEW EPA MPG" in the red banner, there is a red number with the word "COMBINED" under it. That is the new combined city/highway fuel economy for your vehicle. You may then enter the make, model, and model year of a new vehicle you may want to buy and see its combined MPG for comparison
How do I know if my car or truck is an eligible trade-in vehicle in Beaverton?
There are several requirements (but you also have to meet certain conditions for the car or truck you wish to buy). Your Beaverton dealer can help you determine whether you have an eligible trade in vehicle.
Your trade-in vehicle must
• have been manufactured less than 25 years before the date you trade it in
• have a "new" combined city/highway fuel economy of 18 miles per gallon or less
• be in drivable condition
• be continuously insured and registered to the same owner for the full year preceding the trade-in
• The trade-in vehicle must have been manufactured not earlier than 25 years before the date of trade in and, in the case of a category 3 vehicle, must also have been manufactured not later than model year 2001
Note that work trucks (i.e., very large pickup trucks and cargo vans) have different requirements.

How do I know if a Beaverton dealer is participating in the program?
The law requires Beaverton dealers to be registered to participate in the program. We are moving as quickly as possible to register interested dealers. As dealers are registered, They will be listed on the CARS website, http://www.cars.gov . They will continue to update this list during the life of the program. Meanwhile, you may wish to contact dealers in Beaverton to ask whether they plan to participate in the program. The CARS Act requires that dealers be licensed by their respective state, in this case Oregon for the sale of new automobiles in order for them to participate in the program.

What is the Car Allowance Rebate System? Beaverton Oregon
President Obama signed into law a program NHTSA is calling the Car Allowance Rebate System (CARS). This is a government program that helps you purchase a new, more fuel efficient vehicle when you trade in a less fuel efficient vehicle. See the Frequently Asked Questions for more details.
While the CARS Act makes transactions on and after July 1 potentially eligible for credits under the CARS program, interested dealers and consumers may want to wait until all of the detailed issues that must be addressed in the implementing regulations are resolved and the final rule is issued.
